Direct Access

Did You Know You Can See a Physical Therapist Without a Referral

It may surprise you to learn that you can go directly to your physical therapist when dealing with pain or an injury. It doesn’t matter if it is an old or new problem.

In the medical community, Direct Access is the ability to see a physical therapist when you want to without getting permission from your physician or medical practitioner.

Physical therapists routinely assess and treat patients without a physician’s recommendation. You can call (352) 605-8411 or (352) 661-2574 directly at ReQuest Physical Therapy in Gainesville and Newberry, FL, and we’ll schedule your appointment today! Direct Access eliminates wasting your time for the appointment to see a doctor, then the delays in getting a referral to physical therapy and waiting for an appointment to see the therapist.

Another benefit of going directly to our physical therapists is the cost savings. Rather than paying a copay to see your physician and then a specialist just to pay another copay, and finally get sent to physical therapy, you can save money and see our team directly.

Insurance Info

We gladly accept most insurance plans and are not limited to the ones mentioned below. If your plan is not listed, please call us at 352-373-2116 as we are always adding new insurance plans.

  • Blue Cross/Blue Shield
  • Medicare
  • Cigna
  • Aetna
  • Avmed
  • Humana
  • Tricare Standard
  • Worker’s Comp
  • Auto

As a courtesy to our patients, we will verify your health benefits prior to your arrival to determine if there will be a copay, deductible, or coinsurance for therapy services.

For those patients who do not have health insurance or those who have maxed out their benefits, we offer a private pay plan.  Please contact ReQuest Physical Therapy today at 352-373-2116 for more information on our fees for service and payment details.

FAQs

Can physical therapy help herniated discs?

Herniated discs are very common in many individuals with no low back pain. Research has shown that herniated discs can heal or decrease in size with appropriate treatment. Physical therapy reduces the pressure on a degenerative or herniated disc and improves the strength and stability of the muscles that support the spine through purposeful stretching and specialized exercises to ensure you are working safely and efficiently through your full range of motion.

Can physical therapy help hip bursitis?

Physical therapy can be helpful for hip bursitis. After a careful evaluation to determine the underlying cause of hip bursitis, your physical therapist will create a detailed plan to reduce your pain and address deficits in motion, strength, balance, or function.

Do I need surgery for a rotator cuff tear?

Research shows that many people with rotator cuff tears achieve excellent shoulder function with physical therapy and do not need surgery. Degenerative changes and tears in the rotator cuff are very common in people who have no shoulder pain or noticeable problems. Physical therapy should be considered first as a treatment option for rotator cuff tears.

Do I need a referral for physical therapy?

A referral is not needed for physical therapy.  See previous information on Direct Access

A small number of insurance companies still require a referral. If you need a referral, our staff can contact your physician to see if they can obtain it without any delay or other provider visits needed.
